slow moving most of the time and at 55 I can be as well but am
Looking for a river recommendation31 Mar 2006 08:39 GMT3
I have the last two weeks in June open, and three of us want to do a
canoe trip. We'll be departing from central Maine, and we figure on 4
or 5 nights onriver. Including travel days, we have about 7 days
available. Two of us are advanced paddlers, the other is a novice, so
Small boat for the large man31 Mar 2006 01:21 GMT11
There's no delicate way to put this. My best friend - let's call him
Fred - lives tantalizingly close to a pair of beautiful calm lakes with
an interconnecting river and would very much enjoy tooling around in
some kind of small, human-powered watercraft during the summer months.

make kayak unattractive to sharks29 Mar 2006 06:04 GMT8
Has a shark ever attacked a kayak with a black hull and unattractive
top colour? What about a moving kayak? What about a folding kayak?
If I were a shark, I wouldn't want to attack a kayak - bad for the
teeth and don't taste good. But I might attack a kayak if I mistake it
Rocky Cantos Sighting!27 Mar 2006 21:23 GMT4
Old time readers of this newsgroup will remember Rocky Cantos (and
perhaps me as well!).  My March/April AW Journal arrived today and what
to my wondering eyes should appear but an article by Rocky on his 330
mile solo descent of the Rio Sirupa in Northern Mexico.  Great read,
Downturned kayak paddle blades? (Werner)27 Mar 2006 20:04 GMT5
My question is, what are they good for?
For instance, consider the Werner Powerhouse versus the Sidekick.
Both have large blades, 18.9 x 7.7" and 18.9 x 7.9" respectively.
Both weigh the same and are constructed of similar materials.
A little rain, a little surf, a big whale, and a very happy paddler! :-)27 Mar 2006 18:54 GMT15

Replacement Paddle Shafts?27 Mar 2006 06:54 GMT15
I've got this brand-new two-piece carbon wing paddle.
It's supposed to be a highly-regarded paddle, but I find the shaft connecting
system totally unsatisfactory.   Grabbing it hard in the surf is going to lay my
hand open and just trying to put the two halves completely together in ...

Another kayak roof rack question26 Mar 2006 16:27 GMT16
I've searched and searched but nothing seems to hit my questions
exactly. I currently drive a Scion xA and am looking to install a
Yakima roof rack. I am also in the market for two single person kayaks.
The crossbars for the Yakima rack are 48", is that enough room for two
Flatwater Speed/Paddling Ease: WaveWitch vs The Average Kayak?24 Mar 2006 16:08 GMT2
Got a WaveWitch on order.
I guess the anticipation is getting to me.
Anybody had a chance to paddle both a WW and a run-of-the-mill kayak (i.e. not a
19-foot Seda or a racing boat...)
