Dr. Jarvik rowing slender boat in Lipitor commercial: What is it?01 May 2006 00:42 GMT4
A current Lipitor TV commercial shows Dr. Jarvik, inventor of the
artificial heart, rowing a needle-like slender boat on placid waters.
The oars are in oarlocks and are quite long. It is a boat that
resembles a crew racing boat, but is one-man, like a kayak.
Dagger Encore opinions?30 Apr 2006 22:47 GMT8
I have an opportunity to buy a Dagger Encore at a reasonable price.  I
weigh 200 pounds, and have almost zero time in whitewater canoes. (I
have been paddling class II and some III in an Old Town Camper, 16' long
by 36 inches wide).  I don't want to get a boat that would be ...
Yakima Landshark vs. Stacker?27 Apr 2006 02:42 GMT30
Hey all, I appreciate the responses and information many of you have
offered me in getting my own kayaks and gear. I am ordering my Yakima
roof rack system today and have one last question. I personally like
the Landshark (part 4030) kayak rack system the best between it and the

Near drowning incident on the Potomac River (USA) - victim revived21 Apr 2006 11:25 GMT7
Some of you all may have read this on Boater Talk but I thought I would
post the link here too as it is an instructive case where lots of
things worked well - In short victim - went under log in her kayak -
group was able to pull her out - her sprayskirt caught on root ball -
Here we go again...20 Apr 2006 21:16 GMT6
It seems like there are stories like this every year.  It's usually late
April when the first warmer temperatures hit the northeast but the water is
still cold.  This one has all the earmarks of an annual re-occuring tragedy;
no-pfd,  40 degree water, and an inexperienced boater.

Gel Coat for Kevlar Canoe14 Apr 2006 05:45 GMT2
I am considering building a kevlar canoe and was wondering if anyone knows
how possible it is to do a home gel coat?  Has anyone ever done this?  Also,
if anyone has built a kevlar canoe, how did it go?
Thanks.
Camping in the PA, NJ, area13 Apr 2006 17:26 GMT13
Anyone know of any campsites in the area where you can canoe by day,
and then pull over at a campsite - table and fire ring? I know there
are sites on the Delaware near the Gap, but I would like to find
something closer. Jersey Pine Barrens maybe. I live in Philadelphia.

My brother and I run Barefoot Expeditions, a whitewater rafting company
in Ecuador.
We are looking for feedback on our new website and I thought this might
be a great audience to get feedback from.
Canoe Spray Covers?12 Apr 2006 18:32 GMT9
We are headed up to paddle the Nahanni River in Canada's Northwest
Territories.  The sources that I have found are consistent in
recommending a spray cover for the canoes on the Nahanni.

10 tips on shooting pictures without viewfinder12 Apr 2006 03:07 GMT1
Many small point and shoot digital cameras have no viewfinder, just a
LCD monitor which may be hard to read in bright sunlight. The lack of a
viewfinder is perhaps the main reason preventing some photographers from
buying waterproof Pentax Optio cameras. The new shock and ...
