I stumbled accross an old Evinrude Junior outboard motor today in a local chandlers: asking price £60. They assure me it's in good working order. It looks like it's well over 10 years old. I have the option of taking it back if I'm not happy. Research tells me it's probably 2hp.

| Selecting anchor rode for a canoe... | 29 Jun 2006 15:12 GMT | 3 |
Can anyone give some advice on selecting anchor rode for my canoe? One reason for wanting an anchor is as a safety measure in case of getting blown out to sea. (I'll be canoeing along the South Coast of England). My open canoe is 14ft LOA, with a 38" beam. I have two 30mtr lengths

| Drag devices | 29 Jun 2006 14:00 GMT | 14 |
As new tandem kayak team, we recently got caught in water that was beyond our capability. The wind and waves quickly turned our boat and rolled us. I was able to right the boat and climb back in; however, I'd be dumped trying to bring it around into the wind... uktimately,

For what it's worth, here is a pic of the large natural harbour on the South Coast of England where I'm enjoying, and building experience, canoeing. The small photo at the bottom right shows the entrance of the harbour, viewed from the sea:

| Launching query | 25 Jun 2006 01:14 GMT | 14 |
Over the course of a few years of renting kayaks, I have always been instructed that the best way to enter and launch is by way using my paddle as an outrigger, across the back of the cockpit. I've accepted this as gospel. Now I've come across a very informative website that

| Night Paddling in Pennsylvania ?? | 22 Jun 2006 17:34 GMT | 5 |
According to the boating manual if I'm operating my kayak on Commonwealth waters at night I am required to "have a white light either handheld or installed ready to be displayed in time to avoid an accident". I assume this means I can have a flashlight handy to shine
