Evinrude Junior outboard OK for canoe?30 Jun 2006 12:57 GMT37
I stumbled accross an old Evinrude Junior outboard motor today in a
local chandlers: asking price £60. They assure me it's in good working
order. It looks like it's well over 10 years old. I have the option of
taking it back if I'm not happy. Research tells me it's probably 2hp.
Selecting anchor rode for a canoe...29 Jun 2006 15:12 GMT3
Can anyone give some advice on selecting anchor rode for my canoe? One
reason for wanting an anchor is as a safety measure in case of getting
blown out to sea. (I'll be canoeing along the South Coast of England).
My open canoe is 14ft LOA, with a 38" beam. I have two 30mtr lengths
Drag devices29 Jun 2006 14:00 GMT14
As new tandem kayak team, we recently got caught in water that was
beyond our capability.  The wind and waves quickly turned our boat and
rolled us.  I was able to right the boat and climb back in; however,
I'd be dumped trying to bring it around into the wind... uktimately,
Anyone advise on emergency alert devices?28 Jun 2006 13:36 GMT3
For a farly new canoeist in the likes of Poole harbour, what is an
appropriate emergency alert device to carry? Orange smoke flares? I
guess an epirb is a bit over-the-top unless you are out on the sea,
yes?
Loire27 Jun 2006 23:02 GMT1
I am planning to do a trip for a week on the Loire between Nevers and
wherever I get to in a week. I'll be wild camping as and when, and
taking it easy. Just me and my son (6.5) in our Pouch.
Two questions,

My first purchases will be clothing since I can also

Photos and map of my conoeing area27 Jun 2006 21:02 GMT2
For what it's worth, here is a pic of the large natural harbour on the
South Coast of England where I'm enjoying, and building experience,
canoeing. The small photo at the bottom right shows the entrance of
the harbour, viewed from the sea:

Vancouver BC in August or September26 Jun 2006 14:09 GMT2
Hi folks.  Question for you paddle heads.
I'm going to start to try to sell my paddling buddy on a week's trip to
Vancouver for a 5 day kayak trip.  We're from Toronto and have done
some East Coast stuff (Nova Scotia) and lots of Ontario trips.  We love
Launching query25 Jun 2006 01:14 GMT14
Over the course of a few years of renting kayaks, I have always been
instructed that the best way to enter and launch is by way using my
paddle as an outrigger, across the back of the cockpit. I've accepted
this as gospel. Now I've come across a very informative website that

Thinking of buying a cheap small kayak or inflatable kayak for training for races23 Jun 2006 02:13 GMT7
I'll doublecheck availability of rentals in my area but I was thinking
of buying a small kayak under $500 and use it to build up my paddling
muscles. maybe 9 ft long and 3ft wide. i need to store it in apartment
and carry on small sports car. Is this dumb?
Night Paddling in Pennsylvania ??22 Jun 2006 17:34 GMT5
According to the boating manual if I'm operating my kayak on
Commonwealth waters at night I am required to "have a white light
either handheld or installed ready to be displayed in time to avoid an
accident". I assume this means I can have a flashlight handy to shine
Need suggestion on ordering & shipment of gunwales (or make my own?)20 Jun 2006 11:44 GMT10
I've been speaking with REI regarding a gunwale (and other parts) order
for my 16' fiberglass Old Town canoe.
I also spoke with Old Town. Here's my beef and sticking point, not sure
what to do.
