| Kayak on a Mini-Cooper? | 25 Oct 2006 15:30 GMT | 7 |
16' kayak on a 12' car, as a regular thing. Crazy, impossible? Easy as pie, safe as houses? I welcome your opinion! -ml

| OK to put 17' kayak on Toyota Matrix roof rack? | 23 Oct 2006 22:40 GMT | 4 |
Does anyone know if Toyota Matrix is long enough to carry a 17' sea kayak? Car has a Thule roof rack; I also have a Hullaport kayak carrier. I think most cars could do this, but Matrix is shorter than the cars I used before and I am wondering if a 17' kayak can be tied

| DIY folding kayak rib replacement? | 21 Oct 2006 01:16 GMT | 3 |
3 of the ribs on my Nautiraid kayak are broken and the cost to replace them is over 300$. 2 of the ribs I've already replaced with regular home-depot plywood but in the form of a solid board - the center isn't cut out because the wood isn't strong enough alone, but I'd like it ...

| Some sea kayak help? | 20 Oct 2006 19:23 GMT | 11 |
I just traded my laptop for a Sea Lion kayak, a 17' plastic solo. I have a few questions... I loaded it on my roof rack right side up in the dark, in the pouring rain and a 30mph wind; I just wanted to secure it and get out of there. When I

| Bag Dry Suit: Pants/Shirt Underneath? | 20 Oct 2006 06:09 GMT | 7 |
Not to put too fine a point on it, but it seems like there's a conflict when wearing a two-piece (pants + shirt) outfit under a bag suit that has a relief zipper. No belt on the pants and they tend to fall down inside the suit.

| kayak paddle best for canoe? | 19 Oct 2006 17:11 GMT | 4 |
Well, it's not a pure canoe, but a kind of hybrid...the Adventure 14 by Mad River, which I've being paddling like a kayak with 245cm paddles, and it goes just great. I can even see the extra benefit of levelling the boat in high winds with a simple stroke on the water.

| Bow/Stern Lines When Cartopping: Purpose? | 18 Oct 2006 16:02 GMT | 16 |
On the face of it, sounds like an inane question. Safety! ... right? At least that's why I would use them: to keep the boat from flying into the windshield of a following vehicle if for some reason the rack system failed.

| Pentax Optio W10 as a kayak video cam on Colorado River | 18 Oct 2006 14:50 GMT | 2 |
During my trip to Glenwood Canyon a month ago I spent a couple of hours on the Colorado River playing with my Pentax Optio W10 in a video mode. I tried the camera mounted in different ways on a kayak deck with a suction cup (sticky pod) and as a helmet cam. I didn't add any music. ...

I am looking at a carbon-kevlar hull Impex Montauk. Anyone have experience with or opinion of carbon-kevlar hull construction? Does it have problems? Inpact resistant? Maintain its hull shape? Delamination? Anything negative.

| J-Racks: Caveats? | 17 Oct 2006 14:54 GMT | 5 |
Just bought a set. Fastening them to a set of Yak crossbars mounted to a Suburban's factory fore-aft rails in an effort to pick up some carrying capacity where lateral space is too limited to carry the boat (12' 6" WaveWitch) flat on the racks.

| Water Proof Cameras? xxx | 13 Oct 2006 18:33 GMT | 14 |
I posted the message below in 2004, but never took any action. I'm sure things have changed, so maybe there are new cameras out there I should take a look at. Several people mentioned Optio at the time, so maybe they are still a good choice. I'd prefer digital. I recently went on a ...

| Another Beginner seeking advice... | 12 Oct 2006 03:48 GMT | 8 |
My budget is pretty low. I have to keep it under $500 for a recreational kayak, paddle, and life vest. I would love to hear some recommendations. I live in northern indiana so I'm not planning on any white water.

| Rack Made From PVC Pipe: Anybody Done One? | 12 Oct 2006 02:24 GMT | 7 |
In my garage, I've got this wooden rack - made out of 2x4's. Basically two goalposts connected and on wheels with a couple extra crossbars. Needs tb a few inches wider to accommodate a new toy. I'm thinking something like 2 or 3-inch PVC pipe would be easier to look at.
