Hand paddles for $40 (in another thread) got me wondering about other stuff. (Are web-fingered gloves good enough to get down a difficult river? If not, no point carrying them; better to walk out or wait for rescue.)

I'm wondering about the Swiftwater Ranger (many years on the market) and equivalent PFDs that have a quick-release rescue harness to which the wearer can attach a tow tether, etc. The Ranger is just a modified Extrasport Hi-Float. NRS Rapid Rescuer is another model.

I understand that people have built Canadian style canoes that join in the centre. Do you know how the join is made as a friend wishes to build one but is not sure as to how he can get a watertight strong seal. Thanks

I have in my dirty little hands an old klepper (its been in storage for over 30 years and i'm pretty sure it predates that by a good 15 years. any one had any experiance fixing one of these things?

We (two couples in three tandems) are planning 3-4 days kayaking trip on the White River for the 4-th of July. How fast is this river? What would be the reasonable distance assuming, say, ~15 miles per day flat water paddling.

I'm just about finish with my restoration of a 50-year-old cartopper. It had aluminum gunwhales that were beaten to hell and looked awful. I'm going to replace them with wooden gunwhales, and I'm thinking cherry. Is there any other wood I ought to consider?
